BFA Publishing Initiative Partners with Ethiopian Printer to Print 25,000 Amharic- and Oromo-language Books

Yoseph (pictured) manages the printing and book distribution in Addis Ababa. He also serves as lead translator.

One of Books For Africa’s special initiatives is called BFA Publishing. This initiative custom prints books, translating them if need be, in mother tongues of the African continent.

Our latest project under the BFA Publishing initiative takes things one step further. Not only are we having books printed in the Amharic and Oromo languages, the printing is also being done by a printer in Ethiopia! We are pleased to be able to work with more partners in country to fulfill our goal of getting more books to readers in their own mother tongue.

Ingrid Olson, a longtime friend of BFA who works with Partners for Ethiopia, was in the country for three weeks working on a variety of projects and sent us a report:

“This morning I spent a few hours with Yoseph, Open Hearts Big Dreams in-country staff member. We visited the printer and I saw your books in process! …. In general, the books look amazing. Also, it was so exciting for me to see them being printed in Ethiopia. I love that so much!"

This printing includes 5,000 copies of 5 different books, for a total of 25,000 books for printing and distribution in country.
